Taking the initiative

Thought of a conversation I had with my friend months ago.

Friend: *apologizing for not being able to turn up for my convo*
Me: It's okay! It's the thought that counts.
Friend: Nah thoughts are useless without actions. *wishes me good luck and stuff for my convo*

That line has stuck with me ever since. Very often we say it's the thought that counts. But then again, if you really want to do something, what's to stop you from doing it? What is so difficult about making the extra effort for that person, if you really meant your words?
